EasyPro Newsletter: Issue 2

Welcome to the second edition of the EasyPro quarterly newsletter!

It’s been a busy time for EasyPro, an EU-funded project that aims to make Irish universities energy efficient. We had multiple events, a social media milestone and a new video, along with the launch of the EasyPro YouTube channel! Read on to hear all about the project’s progress.

EasyPro presents at Codema – Dublin’s Energy Agency

EasyPro was represented at a workshop on Energy Performance Contracts (EPCs) for public sector decision-makers. The workshop was jointly organised by EasyPro and another EU Horizon project, DeliveREE, and was hosted by our project partner, Codema – Dublin’s Energy Agency. The workshop centred on how EPCs can improve buildings’ energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions, and was targeted towards finance, procurement and legal managers.

At the workshop, EasyPro coordinator Luciano De Tommasi from the International Energy Research Centre (IERC) presented the EasyPro project and outlined what kind of EPC the project will offer Irish universities. In addition, EasyPro project partner Daniel Ring from Lawler Sustainability was part of a panel at the workshop, where he spoke about what his Energy Service Company (ESCO) offers and how the EasyPro project will approach EPCs.

Social media milestone

We are thrilled to announce that EasyPro has reached an exciting milestone: this month, we gained over 100 LinkedIn followers! We would like to thank you, readers, for your continued interest, engagement and support in our project. We shall endeavour to provide you with all the latest EasyPro updates and news.

New EasyPro video and project YouTube channel

The first EasyPro project video was filmed at the Tyndall National Institute in Cork and launched on our new project YouTube channel. In the video, our project coordinator Luciano De Tommasi explains what the EasyPro project is, why the project is important and who is involved. He also explains what EPCs are and why they are so beneficial.

The video is an accessible entry point for anyone who wants to learn about EPCs and the EasyPro project. Watch the full video and subscribe to the EasyPro YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEXdCW4MS0g

Project progress

The EasyPro consortium met at the Codema – Dublin’s Energy Agency headquarters to review the ‘Pathfinder and Requirement Programme’. This is a template that EasyPro will use for EPC project management in Irish universities.

EasyPro also held its first Stakeholder Kick-off Meeting. This online event was a vital milestone that will ensure the success of EasyPro and our goal to make Irish universities energy efficient. Our stakeholders are the individuals outside the project consortium that will review EasyPro’s results, offer feedback and share insights in order to maximise the project’s impact.

Upcoming events

Our project partner Carr Communications will host the EasyPro General Assembly meeting on 15th January 2025. Each project partner will present on their respective work package and its progress since the project’s inception. Our Project Adviser, Vivian Doriza from CINEA – European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, will provide the introductory presentation and the entire consortium will contribute to a discussion on the next steps for EasyPro’s EPC implementation. Other topics will include an analysis of the EPC market facilitation in Ireland and the EasyPro project’s engagement with our selected universities.

Until next time

Looking ahead to the new year, Ireland is currently facing over 8 billion Euro in fines up to 2030 for exceeding its carbon budget. The EasyPro project will respond to this challenge by making Irish universities and public bodies carbon neutral, aligning with the Irish Government’s Climate Action Plan to achieve a 50% improvement in energy efficiency by 2030. We look forward to keeping you up to date on EasyPro’s progress and our efforts to meet this goal.
