Easypro Newsletter: Issue 1

Welcome to the first edition of the EasyPro newsletter!

This newsletter will be published quarterly, or four times per year. The newsletter will provide an overview of the EasyPro project’s developments and news that occurred within the preceding months.

The following sections contain project highlights dating back to the inception of the EasyPro project in July 2024.

For questions about the EasyPro project, contact Carr Communications EU Project Manager, Sean Travers, at stravers@carrcommunications.ie

What is EasyPro?

EasyPro is a new European research project that aims to make Irish public bodies energy efficient, aligning with EU strategies to tackle global warming. These strategies include the EU objective of transitioning to a clean energy system and the Irish Government’s Climate Action Plan, which sets a target for all public sector bodies, including the Higher Education Sector, to improve energy efficiency by 50% by the end of 2030.

The all-Irish, €1.1M project will be piloted in four Irish universities: University College Cork, Technological University Dublin, Maynooth University and Dublin City University.

The project combines a tailored Energy Performance Contract (EPC) Facilitation Service and procurement framework that will reduce the costs and complexities of energy efficient building renovations. EPCs are when an energy service company (ESCO) partners with a client organisation to install energy-saving measures in their buildings and guarantees a certain level of energy savings, while getting paid based on the amount of energy saved over time.

The project combines the expertise of four Irish partner organisations: University College Cork’s International Energy Research Centre, the City of Dublin’s Energy Management Agency, Noel Lawler Green Energy Solutions and Carr Communications.

While the project will prove that a standardised procurement process can be successfully implemented in the Higher Education sector in Ireland, this in turn will pave the way for its roll-out to the rest of the Irish public sector and beyond to the public sectors in other EU Member States. By the end of the project, EasyPro will facilitate up to €45.3 million of investment in energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.

EasyPro’s kick-off meeting in Cork, Ireland

EasyPro’s kick-off meeting was held on 1st July 2024 at the Tyndall National Institute in Cork, Ireland. The meeting was hosted by the International Energy Research Centre and each project partner presented on their role in the project as well as the project’s shared objectives.
